We invite you to propose and participate in the following projects: Single Workshops (Green/Body/Local & CI as a Social Experiment), Interdisciplinary Residencies, Presentations, Panel Discussions, Performances, Videos & Films, Archiving, and more! SEEDS Festival (Somatic Experiments in Earth, Dance, + Science)is a unique interdisciplinary summer festival dedicated to arts and ecology. The two weeks will feature workshops, collaborative design projects, panel discussions, live performances, films, and interdisciplinary investigations. This year’s format: Week One: A week of workshops, and a two-track weekend of eco-soma-regional research, & social experiments into CI. Week Two: Interdisciplinary investigations.

The 2009 Festival will focus on potentiality - in this year of potential political change & community organizing, we invite this phenomenon into our interdisciplinary investigations.

Earthdance is an artist-run residential retreat center and an international arts organization. Through a broad spectrum of activities and programs, Earthdance cultivates the art of improvisation, dance, collaboration, and ecological understanding. Located in Pioneer Valley, Western Massachusetts, Earthdance features two beautiful dance studios, farmhouse, comfortable dorm accommodations, delicious cuisine, wood-stove sauna, spring-fed swimming quarry, and 100 acres of outdoor bounty.

Pioneering Workshop in Berlin:

This laboratory weaves together exploratory research in dance, somatics and deep ecological thinking.
It encourages you to experiment.

Gaia Education, a project of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN), is an international team of educators developing curricula and courses on the Sustainable Development of Urban and Rural Settlements. They created an Ecovillage Design Curriculum, which is the basis of an four weeks course. It is an official contribution to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (UNDESD). To supply the courses they developed four books in corporation with worldwide leaders of sustainable education and others like Vandana Shiva and Starhawk. The sources are read as Who is Who of Deep Ecology. The first book “Beyond You & Me - Inspirations and Wisdom for Building Community” with 289 content pages is available for free to download as an pdf document.

Beyond You & Me is the first in a series of four books that introduces the curriculum. It is for anyone seeking sustainable solutions to the complex problems of climate change, peak oil and the global inequalities of North and South. These volumes are also intended to supplement to the Ecovillage Design Education (EDE) teaching programme for both students and teachers and are edited by ecovillagers from all over the world who designed the EDE.

Was bedeutet nachhaltig leben eigentlich wirklich?
Nachhaltig leben ist für viele ein abstrakter Begriff. Einfach übersetzt heißt es: im Einklang mit der Natur leben.
Die deutsche Sprache macht es uns mit dem Begriff ‘nachhaltig’ nicht leicht.
Im Englischen ist der entsprechende Begriff für Nachhaltigkeit ‘Sustainability‘ und das bedeutet: ‘die Fähigkeit etwas aufrecht zu erhalten’.
Und was im Zusammenhang mit Sustainability im eigentlichen Sinn aufrecht erhalten wird, ist nicht wirtschaftlicher Erfolg oder Wachstum irgendeiner Art. Es ist auch nicht die menschliche Gemeinschaft. Es geht um das Netz des Lebens, das aufrecht erhalten wird und von dem unser Überleben abhängt.
Nachhaltige Gemeinschaften zu schaffen bedeutet also Gemeinschaften und Gesellschaftsformen zu schaffen, die mit der Fähigkeit der Natur, Leben zu erhalten, harmonieren.

Ohne den ökologischen Kontext ist Nachhaltigkeit nicht nachhaltig.

Nach dieser Definition wird auch klar, dass ’soziale Nachhaltigkeit’, ‘wirtschaftliche Nachhaltigkeit’ und ‘ökologische Nachhaltigkeit’ einer Wahrnehmung und einem Denken entspringen, das die Dinge separiert. Und diese Art zu denken ist es, die die Probleme geschaffen hat, mit denen wir heute umgehen müssen.
Die Herausforderung unserer Zeit ist es, anders wahrnehmen zu lernen, anders zu denken und dadurch anders zu gestalten.
Man kann sich das Ausmaß eines solchen Paradigmenwechsels ein bisschen so vorstellen, wie zum Ende der Zeit, als der Grossteil der Menschheit glaubte (und dies an Schulen und Universitäten auf entsprechende Art gelehrt wurde), die Erde sei eine Scheibe.

The ANH is an a-political, non-ideological and plural initiative promoted in 2003 by ten founding members and presided by Deepak Chopra. Today, it is a group constituted by people from all over the world with a common goal in mind: to create and reinforce a more sustainable, pacific and empathic humanity.

To create an alliance of people based on the awareness of humanity’s interconnectedness. We believe that if enough people share the value of peace, war can be brought to an end. If enough people shift their awareness toward social justice, human rights, and environmental sustainability, then injustice, oppression, and the destruction of the ecosystem can be stopped.

Such a shift is already occurring - now it needs critical mass, which in turn needs organisation. The Alliance aims to connect individuals, caring communities and groups at a global level.

Unity isn’t fought for and won. It is realized one person at a time.

It was held on the day of the unleashing of Transition Town Lewes in England. Johnstone feels inspired by communities creating their own energy descent plan and gives an insight into the Transition Towns Initiatives and its larger context.

‘Art, Ecology & Education’ bietet Wege zu einer integrierten und nachhaltigen Art zu leben.
Es gibt eine Webseite als Wissensresource, es gibt Workshops und Kooperationen in verschiedenen Bereichen, es gibt ein Netzwerk innerhalb des ‘Wiserearth’-Portals, es gibt diesen Blog….
Dazu kommt jetzt: ‘Art, Ecology & Education’ schafft eine Möglichkeit in ‘real life’, um sich kennenzulernen, auszutauschen, zu feiern, zu diskutieren, brainzustormen, einen gemütlichen und inspirierenden Abend zu verbringen, und durch ausgesuchten Input Neues zu lernen.

Die ersten zwei Abende haben schon statt gefunden.
Der erste Abend war ein Screening von ‚A Crude Awakening/Oilcrash’ (OV), mit anschliessender, sehr spannender Diskussion über ‘Wahrheitsgehalt’ und Machart des Films bis hin zur Frage: ‘Wie können wir auf Peakoil reagieren?’.
An dem zweiten Abend ging es um Paradigmen Wechsel als Grundlage für Sustainability. Ausgangspunkt für eine offene Diskussion waren zwei kurze Videobeiträge: ‘The Web of Life’, eine Einführung von Fritjof Capra (Physiker, Systemdenker und Autor, Mitgründer des Center for Ecoliteracy in Kalifornien) und ‘Beyond Deep Ecology’, ein Interview mit Satish Kumar (NGO Director, Peace Activist, Herausgeber des Resurgence Magazine and Programm Director am Schumacher College, U.K.). Beides sehr inspirierende Persönlichkeiten und herausfordernde Denker! Dieser Input in Kombination mit dem Interesse und der Unterschiedlichkeit der Anwesenden ergab einen reichhaltigen Abend…

Auch der Veranstaltungort trägt zur Atmosphäre bei: im selfHUB spürt man Offenheit, Vielfalt und Synergien.

Weitere Veranstaltungen folgen, die Themen und Formen werden variieren, aber es wird immer einen Bezug zu einer ganzheitlichen Wahrnehmung des Lebens und zu integrierendem Denken geben.

This is one of her book publications: ‘Earth Democracy: Justice, Sustainability and Peace’ / ‘Erd-Demokratie. Alternativen zur Neoliberalen Globalisierung’.

Die Transition Town Initiative ist momentan der vielversprechenste Vorschlag, wie Individuen, Gruppen und Kommunen auf Klimawandel und Peak Oil reagieren können. Rob Hopkins ist Begründer der Initiative. Für ihn ist klar, dass Peak Oil und Klimawandel nicht getrennt gesehen werden können, dass nicht ein Phänomen bedrohlicher als das andere ist. (In der bisherigen Politik und Diskussion ist das selten, was oft fatale Schlussfolgerungen zur Folge hat, siehe zum Beispiel den Hirsch Report).

Rob Hopkins’ Lösungsvorschlag ist: ‘Relocalisation’, das heisst die Stärkung der örtlichen Ökonomie und der sozialen Bindungen, und ‘Resilience’, das heisst Systeme anpassungsfähig zu machen. Ein anderer entscheidender Punkt ist, dass eine positive Vision entwickelt wird. Die Motivation kommt also nicht aus der Angst vor der Katastrophe, sondern von dem positiven Bild, wie unsere Zukunft aussehen kann (die zugrunde liegende psychologische These ist, dass wir nur handeln, wenn wir eine Zukunft sehen, für die es sich zu handeln lohnt). Hopkins hat ein klares Design des Ãœbergangsprozesses entwickelt, dem die Permakultur Prinzipien zugrunde liegen. September 2006 launchte er zusammen mit Naresh Giangrande in Totnes die Initiative, der sich inzwischen viele englische Dörfer und Kommunen angeschlossen haben. Auch in Irland, Schottland, Wales, Australien und Neuseeland bilden sich Gruppen.

Die Initiative stellt grosszügig Informationen, ein Netzwerk und die Begleitung des Prozesses zur Verfügung. Bald war dem Team klar, dass die Grundlagen - sowohl Wissen als auch Handwerk - den Leuten und Gruppen, die in die Bewegung einsteigen wollen, vermittelt werden müssen. Sophy Banks and Naresh Giangrande haben ein sehr informatives, praktisches und inspirierendes Training entwickelt, das sie in Totnes und an anderen Orten innerhalb der UK anbieten. Letztes Wochenende haben Lars und ich an so einem Training in Totnes, Devon teilgenommen.

Wieviele Kleidungsstücke besitzt Du, die nicht irgendwo in ihrer Herstellung auf Öl angewiesen sind? Wle gross ist der Anteil Deiner Ernährung, der in der Produktion ohne Kraftstoff auskommt? Wie sieht es mit deiner Mobilität aus? Oder mit der Heizung?
