The Sound Earth Foundation is a not-for-profit information network first and foremost dedicated to promoting sound art, environmental art and the field of acoustic ecology.
Our other goal is to teach everyone to bring their state of being back into balance with nature, and help themselves make decisions on how to lessen their impact on the world around them.

Scheisse wird zu Erde, die man aufs Dach legt, wird zu Wiese, Wald und Gärten.
Scheisse wird zu Gold. Es befriedigt sehr, so immer reicher zu werden.
Der Kreislauf ist geschlossen. Es gibt keinen Abfall mehr, die Umwelt gesundet. Immer wenn ich ein englisches Wasserklosett benutze, habe ich dasselbe schlechte Gewissen, wie wenn ich Auto fahre oder fliege.
Die Wasser-Toiletten sind eine der vielen gefährlichen Sackgassen unserer Zivilisation: Verschwendung von Unmengen reinem Trinkwasser, um etwas Scheisse und Urin fortzutragen. Aus 1kg Wertvollem werden so 50 Liter gefährlicher Substanz, die Grundwasser, Brunnen; Flüsse, Seen und Meere verseucht.
Der Raubbau wird durch Wegspülen von Lebenswichtigem vervielfacht. Das Land verarmt. Kunstdünger ist kein Ersatz. Wasserklosett: Aus 1.000 Gramm Scheisse wird 50.000 Gramm Unrat-Gift.
Humusklosett: Aus 1.000 Gramm Scheisse wird 50 Gramm Rohstoff Gold.
Muss ich meine Scheisse verschenken und damit die Umwelt vergiften?
Ich behalte sie lieber und wandle sie in Gold um.

‘Art, Ecology & Education’ bietet Wege zu einer integrierten und nachhaltigen Art zu leben.
Es gibt eine Webseite als Wissensresource, es gibt Workshops und Kooperationen in verschiedenen Bereichen, es gibt ein Netzwerk innerhalb des ‘Wiserearth’-Portals, es gibt diesen Blog….
Dazu kommt jetzt: ‘Art, Ecology & Education’ schafft eine Möglichkeit in ‘real life’, um sich kennenzulernen, auszutauschen, zu feiern, zu diskutieren, brainzustormen, einen gemütlichen und inspirierenden Abend zu verbringen, und durch ausgesuchten Input Neues zu lernen.
Die ersten zwei Abende haben schon statt gefunden.
Der erste Abend war ein Screening von ‚A Crude Awakening/Oilcrash’ (OV), mit anschliessender, sehr spannender Diskussion über ‘Wahrheitsgehalt’ und Machart des Films bis hin zur Frage: ‘Wie können wir auf Peakoil reagieren?’.
An dem zweiten Abend ging es um Paradigmen Wechsel als Grundlage für Sustainability. Ausgangspunkt für eine offene Diskussion waren zwei kurze Videobeiträge: ‘The Web of Life’, eine Einführung von Fritjof Capra (Physiker, Systemdenker und Autor, Mitgründer des Center for Ecoliteracy in Kalifornien) und ‘Beyond Deep Ecology’, ein Interview mit Satish Kumar (NGO Director, Peace Activist, Herausgeber des Resurgence Magazine and Programm Director am Schumacher College, U.K.). Beides sehr inspirierende Persönlichkeiten und herausfordernde Denker! Dieser Input in Kombination mit dem Interesse und der Unterschiedlichkeit der Anwesenden ergab einen reichhaltigen Abend…
Auch der Veranstaltungort trägt zur Atmosphäre bei: im selfHUB spürt man Offenheit, Vielfalt und Synergien.
Weitere Veranstaltungen folgen, die Themen und Formen werden variieren, aber es wird immer einen Bezug zu einer ganzheitlichen Wahrnehmung des Lebens und zu integrierendem Denken geben.

Ich mochte den ersten Eindruck, den ich vom Schumacher College bekam, als wir von Toni Spencer, Researcher und Project Developer des College, empfangen wurden und zusammen aßen. Das Gebäude war kleiner, als ich es mir vorgestellt hatte, die Leute schienen freundlich und offen. Ich sah den Tagesplan, der jeden morgen an eine Tafel geschrieben wird und auf dem unter anderem steht, wer an diesem Tag kocht. An diesem Tag war dafür Satish Kumar zuständig, der Programme Director des College…
Nach dem Abendessen trafen wir uns im Garten mit einigen Studenten zu selbstgemachtem Apple Cider. Die Gruppe des Master Programms für Holistische Wissenschaft ist klein (maximal 13 Teilnehmer) und international. Die Dozentenliste für das Programm ist sehr ausgewählt und inspirierend. Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass dieser Studiengang eine sehr intensive und besondere Erfahrung sein muss.
Zurück zu Totnes’ Buchläden. Es ist echt schön und ziemlich inspirierend, was man hier für Input bekommen kann. - Und zwar von konventionellen Buchläden bis hin zur kleinen Bücherei des Ortes: Ãœberall gibt es Bücher zu ’sustainable and green living’.
Wir finden eine excellente Auswahl von Literatur über Climate Change und Peak Oil (überhaupt ist der Umgang mit dem ‘Erdölfördermaximum’ und seinen Auswirkungen auf unsere Gesellschaft hier bereits sehr klar realisiert und es gibt einfach schon sehr praktische Ratgeber und Guides für das Leben in der Ãœbergangszeit bzw danach.) Der Input, wie man vom ‘abhängigen Konsumenten zum verantwortungsvollen Produzenten’ werden kann - ein zentraler Punkt der Permakultur im Entwickeln einer nachhaltigen Gesellschaft - ist hier in Totnes sehr zugänglich und umfassend: Da sind diverse Bücher über biologisches Gärtnern und Selbstversorgung, ökologisches Bauen und Renovieren, ökologisch bewusste Gemeinschaften/Ökodörfer und natürlich über Permakultur. Ausserdem haben wir den Eindruck, dass das Denken, die Philosophie eines neuen, integrierten Paradigmas, die dem ganzen zugrunde liegt, hier sehr weit ist. Es gibt viele Bücher zu Themen wie Ecosophy, Ecopsychology oder Holistic Science. Es macht Spass, unsere Gedanken und Empfindungen (siehe www.art-ecology-education.org) hier so umfassend und individuell ausgedrückt zu sehen.
Dies ist eine (Auswahl)Liste, die euch vielleicht einen kleinen Eindruck geben kann, wie die Buchläden in eurem Kiez, oder eurem Ort aussehen könnten…- vielleicht brauchen die ja einfach ein bischen Unterstützung von eurer Seite…;-). Einige Titel gibt es auch auf deutsch…
Read this article about a meeting with James Lovelock, one of the most visionary climate scientists around. Lovelock comes across quite controversial at times. He seems to shift between a pure statement and personal, emotional reactions and interpretations. However what he says definitely needs to be considered, and it can be pretty inspiring: Lovelock is stating that global warming has passed the tipping point and that catastrophe is unstoppable. So: Will we be able to understand and integrate what that means, and will (much fewer of us) finally understand that this is not our planet and learn to live with it? What do you think?…

First of all, I have to tell you that we had difficulties in deciding wether to write in english or german. Still have…So if any of you would like to know more or get some german input, let us know. Otherwise we’ll keep it english. We are in the process of meeting/exploring/exchanging with people working in similar areas or with similar interests, and there is a lot of great stuff happening in the UK, so here we go.

The “5Rs” are an exploration of the themes Respect, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. These Earth-loving actions allow us to reduce our impact on our Earth and add deeper meaning and joy to our lives.
Respect: Have respect for the planet, for your own health, and for other people. It gives birth to less destructive habits.
Rethink: When you’re shopping give thought to the items you purchase. Think about where they come from and where they’ll go. Rethink your old ways of consuming.
Reduce: After rethinking, it’s easier to cut out items that could be harmful to you or the environment. reducing diminishes the amount of energy and resources used, reduses waste and pollution, and sends a message to manufactures - if we don’t buy it, they won’t make it.
Reuse: Instead of throwing away. It’s more than just recycling.
Recycle: If an item cannot be reused, then recycle it.
