Animate Earth

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

It is obvious that some kind of shift has to happen, will happen.

Observing and understanding the corporate world, the global economy, politics and society are crucial components to realize where we are at. But this won’t give us the keys to change, I don’t believe in changing from ‘within’, sticking to the old paradigms.

There is a lot coming up concerning the shift of paradigm, the shift of consciousness. One of the voices is Stephan Harding, Co-ordinator of the MSc in Holistic Science at Schumacher College, where he is also Resident Ecologist and a teacher. In his book ‘Animate Earth’ he explores how Gaian science can help us to develop a sense of connectedness with the ‘more-than-human’ world. His work is based on a careful integration of rational scientific analysis with our intuition, sensing and feeling.

‘Enjoy life while you can’?…

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

earthRead this article about a meeting with James Lovelock, one of the most visionary climate scientists around. Lovelock comes across quite controversial at times. He seems to shift between a pure statement and personal, emotional reactions and interpretations. However what he says definitely needs to be considered, and it can be pretty inspiring: Lovelock is stating that global warming has passed the tipping point and that catastrophe is unstoppable. So: Will we be able to understand and integrate what that means, and will (much fewer of us) finally understand that this is not our planet and learn to live with it? What do you think?…

‘Enjoy life while you can’, by Decca Aitkenhead, The Guardian, Saturday March 1 2008

By the way: James Lovelock is a regular teacher at Schumacher College which is one of the places we visit on our trip. Check out the ‘Sound of Sirens on Tour’ posts.
