Sound Of Sirens

Ich komme gerade von der Jahres-Konferenz des Rates für Nachhaltige Entwicklung. Alles in allem geht/ging es dort (noch) sehr wenig um Selbstermächtigung. (Und was die Moderatorin unseres Forums von einer ‘Nachhaltigkeits-Konferenz der TV Sender’ erzählt hat, war ehrlich gesagt auch nicht sehr inspirierend…) Es geht immer wieder um Konsumenten und Konsumverhalten, Hilfe für Projekte, die sich in anderen Teilen der Welt befinden, hilflose Kommunikationskonzepte in den Medien…etc. Aber nirgends ist die Rede, Menschen zu unterstützen hier und jetzt von abhängigen Konsumenten zu selbstverantwortlichen Produzenten zu werden. (Eine Möglichkeit dazu bietet das Permakultur Konzept. www.permakultur-info.de) Und natürlich werden auch nicht unsere Gesellschaftstrukturen als solches oder unsere Art zu Denken in Frage gestellt, die ja eigentlich all das geschaffen hat.

Der britische TV Kanal Channel 4 hat jetzt ein Projekt gestartet, das sich Landshare nennt. Es geht darum, dass Einzelpersonen und Organisationen, die Landflächen besitzen, das nicht oder kaum genutzt wird, diese für Menschen zur Verfügung stellen, die Gärten zur lokalen Obst und Gemüseproduktion anlegen möchten. Ziel ist es, britisches Land produktiver zu machen und frische, lokale Produkte für alle zugänglich.

Inspiriert wurde das ganze wahrscheinlich unter anderem durch das Garden Share Projekt der Transition Town Initiative in Totnes.

Roberto Perez, a cuban permaculture designer, talks about how Cuba survived Peak Oil. Also there is a documentary about this: ‘The Power of Community - How Cuba survived Peak Oil‘.

My main point would be the sense of community, of culture and music that exists in Cuba. Wonder what that cultural base would be in European countries or the US…

Die Transition Town Initiative ist momentan der vielversprechenste Vorschlag, wie Individuen, Gruppen und Kommunen auf Klimawandel und Peak Oil reagieren können. Rob Hopkins ist Begründer der Initiative. Für ihn ist klar, dass Peak Oil und Klimawandel nicht getrennt gesehen werden können, dass nicht ein Phänomen bedrohlicher als das andere ist. (In der bisherigen Politik und Diskussion ist das selten, was oft fatale Schlussfolgerungen zur Folge hat, siehe zum Beispiel den Hirsch Report).

Rob Hopkins’ Lösungsvorschlag ist: ‘Relocalisation’, das heisst die Stärkung der örtlichen Ökonomie und der sozialen Bindungen, und ‘Resilience’, das heisst Systeme anpassungsfähig zu machen. Ein anderer entscheidender Punkt ist, dass eine positive Vision entwickelt wird. Die Motivation kommt also nicht aus der Angst vor der Katastrophe, sondern von dem positiven Bild, wie unsere Zukunft aussehen kann (die zugrunde liegende psychologische These ist, dass wir nur handeln, wenn wir eine Zukunft sehen, für die es sich zu handeln lohnt). Hopkins hat ein klares Design des Übergangsprozesses entwickelt, dem die Permakultur Prinzipien zugrunde liegen. September 2006 launchte er zusammen mit Naresh Giangrande in Totnes die Initiative, der sich inzwischen viele englische Dörfer und Kommunen angeschlossen haben. Auch in Irland, Schottland, Wales, Australien und Neuseeland bilden sich Gruppen.

Die Initiative stellt grosszügig Informationen, ein Netzwerk und die Begleitung des Prozesses zur Verfügung. Bald war dem Team klar, dass die Grundlagen - sowohl Wissen als auch Handwerk - den Leuten und Gruppen, die in die Bewegung einsteigen wollen, vermittelt werden müssen. Sophy Banks and Naresh Giangrande haben ein sehr informatives, praktisches und inspirierendes Training entwickelt, das sie in Totnes und an anderen Orten innerhalb der UK anbieten. Letztes Wochenende haben Lars und ich an so einem Training in Totnes, Devon teilgenommen.

First of all, I have to tell you that we had difficulties in deciding wether to write in english or german. Still have…So if any of you would like to know more or get some german input, let us know. Otherwise we’ll keep it english. We are in the process of meeting/exploring/exchanging with people working in similar areas or with similar interests, and there is a lot of great stuff happening in the UK, so here we go.

There will be practical input like a pruning workshop, loads of permaculture and other projects to visit, we will participate in a Transition Town Training in Totnes and then head to London, meeting people from an acting school and more. That’s the rough outline. We will see what emerges around it…Maybe we’ll just enjoy spring for a minute!…
